Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3[1] is the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the final installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. The movie was announced shortly after the theatrical release of Guardians Vol. 2. Disney fired James Gunn as director in 2018 before rehiring Gunn after he apologized for a past Twitter post. Production began after Gunn is finished with The Suicide Squad and the release being on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
