As the movie ends, Peter opens up his mother's last gift to him and begins playing it. Yondu realizes that the orb peter gave him was a false one, containing a troll doll (which he keeps with his other knickknacks, Rhomann Dey returns to his family and the Nova Corps lock away the Infinity Stone. Also, Groot is shown regenerating just as the guardians go to their next adventure.

According to Karen Gillan, Nebula was originally going to be killed off in the film, however, James Gunn spared her aFter realizing this character had more potential in future MCU installments. [1]
The original ending was cut for being "too sad". The scene involved Peter's grandfather looking at a picture of a young Meredith and a young Peter Quill.
